DESCRIPTION

The Space Cube coin represents the collision between the Earth and the meteorite Aletai. The coin consists of two elements - a coin as a stand and a cube created from the pure Aletai meteorite. Combined, they show the collisions between two celestial bodies - a body of cosmic origin landed on Earth.
Aletai is a rare subgroup of iron meteorites found in China named after Aletai county, where a local farmer first discovered them in a mountain valley. Five Aletai masses were recovered from the ground, and their locations were geographically spread over 430 km, indicating they belong to the same fall. Currently, Aletai iron meteor shower is considered the biggest event in the history of our planet, which originated in prehistoric times.
With MINT XXI, an Aletai meteorite from outer space passed through the atmosphere and landed on the 70 mm silver coin with an antique finish. The Space Cube coin has spiral relief and a 40 mm x 40 mm Aletai cube to show the massive changes a meteorite can make on Earth.
